Diagnostic ultrasound
Make an appointment for an ultrasound of the front and back blood vessels of the neck (carotid and vertebral arteries) as well as blood vessels of the brain. Early detection of restricted blood flow in the artery can significantly reduce the risk of stroke.
Reduce the risk of stroke with a safe and non-invasive examination monitoring the blood flow of the main arteries in the neck and head. Color Doppler can detect poor circulation and several other disorders and diseases in time.
Ultrasound is a non-invasive medical diagnostic method. Neurology Polyclinic Hospitalija uses the latest ultrasound technology. The procedure is completely painless, lasts between 30-45 minutes, and helps to detect changes in the structure of the blood vessel (atherosclerosis), reduced blood flow, or narrowing and blockage of the neck and brain arteries.
Get a timely diagnosis with an ultrasound
Stroke is the leading cause of death and disability in the world. Every year, more than 700,000 people suffer a stroke, and on average, every 4 minutes a person dies as a result of a stroke. This is why it is extremely important to detect atherosclerosis of the neck and brain arteries early and thus prevent serious consequences.
Therapy and treatment of diseases affecting the blood vessels of the neck and brain, the most common of which is stroke.
Early detection of changes in the structure of neck and head blood vessels is the best way to prevent the onset of the disease, and the best detection method is a diagnostic ultrasound.
What is Color Doppler?
Color Doppler is a special ultrasound examination performed with a small ultrasound probe that measures and analyzes blood flow and detects changes in the blood vessels' walls, occlusion (clogging), stenosis (narrowing), and dilation (expansion) of blood vessels.
Sound waves measure the direction and speed of blood in the vessels, and the computer converts these waves into moving images on the screen.
The examination is very quick, simple, and painless. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation and is not harmful.
Neurology Polyclinic Hospitalija offers the following tests:
CDFI of the carotid arteries (ultrasound of the anterior blood vessels of the neck)
CDFI of the vertebral arteries (ultrasound of the posterior blood vessels of the neck)
TCCD of blood vessels of the head (ultrasound of blood vessels of the head)
What is a CDFI?
Color Doppler Flow Imaging is an ultrasound examination of the carotid and vertebral arteries of the neck. This is a basic and necessary examination of diseases affecting the blood vessels of the neck and brain. The examination of the vessels in this way gives an insight into the local and, indirectly, into the systemic condition of the arteries.
During the diagnostic test, we examine the condition of the neck arteries' wall and blood flow. The test includes:
- examination of the internal carotid artery
- examination of the external carotid artery
- examination of the vertebral arteries of the neck
What is TCCD?
Transcranial color-coded duplex, or transcranial color Doppler sonography, i.e. ultrasound of the blood vessels of the head, is a diagnostic test that is used to analyze the circulation of the vertebral and basilar arteries, as well as to analyze the circulation of other blood vessels of the brain. It serves as a complement to the color Doppler examination of the blood vessels of the neck.
Ultrasound examination of head and neck blood vessels is recommended for patients:
- with a high risk for cerebrovascular diseases
- who have overcome a transient ischemic attack or stroke
- in whom a central vertigo is suspected
- in which subclavian steal syndrome is suspected
- with headaches without a clear cause
- with degenerative disease of the cervical spine
