Any chronic disease, especially neurological, can be accompanied by anxiety, depression, or some other psychiatric symptom.

The symptoms may be related to coping with the neurological disease or may be directly caused by the neurological disease. Whether, when, and in what form psychiatric symptoms will appear depends on the nature of the underlying disease, intensity of symptoms, response to therapy and prognostic outcome on the one hand, and personality traits, impaired quality of life, and attitude towards the illness of the individual on the other hand.
